Can Acne Scars Be Completely Removed?

Can Acne Scars Be Completely Removed?
“Can acne scars disappear completely?” is one of the most common questions in acne-scar treatment.
The short answer:
Acne scars can often be significantly improved, but complete 100% removal may not be a realistic endpoint for every scar.
That is because acne scarring is not a single condition.
One scar may be tethered by underlying fibrosis.
Another may involve tissue or volume loss.
Some scars are narrow and deep.
Others have broad, rolling depressions.
And many patients have several scar types at the same time.
This is why asking:
“Which laser is the best?”
may be less useful than asking:
“What is causing this particular scar to remain depressed?”
Lasers and energy-based devices can stimulate collagen remodeling and improve skin texture. But if a scar is mechanically tethered by fibrotic bands, resurfacing alone may not address the entire problem.
Depending on scar morphology, treatment may therefore involve subcision, TCA CROSS, fractional laser or RF, filler, or carefully planned combination therapy.
The goal is not necessarily to perform more procedures.
The goal is to match the treatment to the structure of the scar.
At PROTOCALLS™, we approach acne scars by asking what is happening underneath the surface before deciding what should be done on top of it.
Treat the structure. Not just the surface.
